Supercritical CO2 Extraction - Is it Good for the Environment?

As global warming has become more prevalent, the reduction of traditional fossil fuels and ultimately the shrinkage of the carbon footprint is occurring across every aspect of our daily lives.  The question arises on whether Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (CO2) extraction is positively or negatively impacting our environment?

To answer this question, we first must understand the origination of the CO2 used for the Supercritical extraction process.  Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is presently generated from many different sources throughout the world today.  Many of these CO2 sources include power plants, gasoline cars and manufacturing plants.  Many of these sources of CO2 have contaminants that are not acceptable for food manufacturing and human consumption.

Fertilizer production and the alcohol-fermentation process are two manufacturing processes that generate CO2 as a by-product that is pure, clean and fit for human consumption and food manufacturing.  These two processes have incorporated CO2 capture systems so that the CO2 can be stored and supplied to other industries.  These industries include beverage producers, medical and pharmaceutical applications, and Supercritical CO2 extractors.

Ultimately, Phasex Corporation is utilizing clean recycled CO2 from other manufacturing facilities to operate their Supercritical CO2 Extraction process.  Phasex continues their CO2 extraction process by recycling the CO2 within its own extraction process to further extend the usage of the CO2. Ultimately, Phasex is recycling CO2, ensuring their operation is carbon neutral and generating safe natural food extracts, dietary supplement ingredients, purified medical devices and many other FDA safe products.
